Day 25

How Long, O Lord?

“But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt bountifully with me.” – Psalm 13: 5-6
Most good stories contain a plot twist – a sudden change in direction that forces the reader to pay attention.

Psalm 13 provides an example of how all of us can experience a plot twist in our own lives. In this short Psalm, the psalmist focuses on his less-than-favorable circumstances in verses 1-4, asking “How Long, O Lord” will you forget about me, how long will you hide your face from me, and how long will you allow me to have sorrow in my heart?

Then, in verse 5, the psalmist turns complaint into confidence. He remembers what the Lord has done for him in the past, and such a memory leads to rejoicing.

We can follow this same pattern and turn our complaints into praises.
Pray: Lord, help me remember all that You have done for me. I have trusted in your steadfast love. Because of how you have dealt with me in the past, I can sing praises to you instead of complaining about my circumstances.
